The Juvenile Blue Heron Is White

The juvenile blue heron is white, similar to the egrets. These stately and elegant birds with their long necks and legs are familiar to all, but with over 60 species globally it can be challenging to identify in the field. There were over 20 mating pairs of this one species that we spotted on the edge of a pristine Alpine forest; off the tourist track but accessible by SUV. I am now leading a private workshop in Western Japan, where I photographed this entertaining Juvenile Blue Heron during a flight test run, after failing to take flight it became shy and went back to its nest to contemplate. We are on one of the busiest birding migration routed in Asia Pacific Region. We spent two hours shooting them before moving on to another area and bird species.
