Cherry Blossoms and the Mejiro/Japnese White-eye (Zosterops japonicus), also known as the Mejiro (メジロ, 目白) is the Exotic birding photography experience of a lifetime. Annually I spend Six weeks on the most northern Island of Japan documenting the exotic Steller’s Sea Eagle and Red-Crowned Cranes along with Ezo Sika Deer and other wildlife, plus some of the most spectacular landscapes during my annual winter Hokkaido Photography Tour. As March rolls around promptly I return to Tokyo, so do not to miss the hypnotizing beauty of the Mejiro and Cherry Blossoms. Annually I lead several private guided birding workshops in Japan to photograph Cherry Blossoms and the Japanese white-eye. The mejiros are quite the acrobats, moving quickly as a kingfisher dives; up and down the tree branches gulping the nourishing sweet nectar of the Cherry Blossom. Timing is of the essence to captures these two together, as each flower blooms it’s sweet nectar is quickly emptied by the lighting fast Japanese white-eye.
