Landing in the business hub and high-tech Tokyo most do not envision Japan to be 70% unpopulated wilderness, also home to over 6,850 islands subtropical to subarctic with alpine rice terraces with breathtaking views. These alpine terraces I photographed yesterday while scouting with my photography partner n wife Manami and fellow nemophilist; for new locations for our “Japan Photography Tours,” also seeking the absolute Zen ecstatics. Our original route had us 50km away at rice terraces on the tourist track; we never got there. Instead, we savored peaceful solitudes hiking picking mountain vegetables and most importantly laughing and smiling the day away. Quickly I tagged a waypoint for an easy return with my handy n reliable GPS unit; I have mapped and photographed as team leader on every continent during my 40 plus years behind the viewfinder, over half of those years keeping our BaseCamp in Japan.
