Personality Wildlife Photography - P.W.P.

Wildlife photography is at it’s best when there is personality and heart in the capture; anyone can shot a bird on a stick! As a professional wildlife photographer, adventurer, with over thirty years experience, I am always intrigued with the behavior of wildlife. The crow and raven species are often ignored by us wildlife photographers, even knowingly they are one of our most intelligent bird species on the planet. In Tokyo, they have been observed waiting for traffic lights to turn red then placing walnuts on the road getting cars to crack them. Once the nuts are broken and the light changes they leisurely go back onto the road and pick up their well-earned/minded meal. The first photo below of the two ravens, I was in Hokkaido leading a Japan Photo Tour group. Everyone was occupied with the Steller’s Sea Eagles, White Tailed Eagles, Golden Eagles, Black Kites; we even had a pair of Red Foxes joining in the party. We were at a fresh water Ocean inlet during low tide, that is known to trap small fish, the birds and wildlife know it well; it’s a great location for wildlife photography, plus it's off the beaten path. I got sidetracked by the rare pair of “Corvus Corax" wintering over in Hokkaido, they were captivatingly amusing. The Raven on the right is just finishing its meal as you can see on the tree branch, the Raven on the left has just landed with a fish flapping in its mouth/beak; they locked eyes for a moment then the perfect P.W.P. Personality Wildlife Photo Moment! The Raven on the left is telling its partner with body language n eye’s, possibly mind reading “No you can’t have my fish, it’s mine!”
The second photo is extremely rare many have commented, “it must have been a feast,” the Eagles were not feeding; in sub-artic conditions, Eagles have been known to huddle.
The third photo I am face to face with an outstanding never heard of herd, numbering over 500 Ezo Sika Deer, while leading a Hokkaido Photo Tour, this is one of those P.W.P. moments, that only a handful have witnessed.
The fourth photo the world famous primates that everyone loves, Snow Monkeys. A caring mother tenderly hugging her child, with the same emotional and psychological attachments that a human mother provides.

Capturing these shots I recommend having your camera on continuous shutter release mode, don’t try savoring space on your memory card, or you just might miss “That Moment-That Look/just when something interesting is happening. Lucky for us it’s the digital age, we need not trouble ourselves with transporting, developing, or handling countless rolls of film, giving us extra time in the pursuit of those perfect personality shots.
