Onaga - Azure-Winged Magpie

Onaga the Japanese name for the Azure-Wined Magpie, which means "long tail." Magpies are related to crows and jackdaws; the “Azures" certainly are much more elegant looking. They have long light blue tails and wings, gray-white backs, white throats, and blackheads. I am currently leading a three-day private Japan photo tour, for a couple from Europe. I photographed these two in a natural woodland orchard, outside of Tokyo prefecture, where Magpies are assumed to be in their highest density; there were several dozen in the flock.
