Yes, the Japanese snow monkeys have a complex social structure, the rich and famous monkeys enjoy all the amenities of the hot springs; while plebeian’s can be easily found grooming others and also caring for the patrician's children. Most who visit with snow monkeys only spend a short time, generally not long enough to get a good feel for the social order. I visit with the Japnese Snow Monkeys 3-5 times a year with participants who adventure with me on one of my Japan Photo Tour, or a private tour/workshop. Each of these monkeys has a name given to them by the park's stewards.
