Before visiting Japan, some put allot of energy and time into learning the society/customs, most don’t. Most do not have the time, or they pick up a pocket book & start reading on the plane. By the time most get though a few pages they have had enough, the book ends up mysteriously back home.
When you travel with us, we take the time to help with simple social etiquette. Generally taking under a minute to explain. Such as tipping traditional table service, it’s not needed, plus 99.9% it’s not accepted, same with taxis. However there are times we do give tips, for persons kindness. I also arrange for friends/clients day trips to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka & other hubs. At times I take persons into these areas, museums, shopping, shrines, geisha tea houses etc… Most of the time I'm on a tight schedule, this is when I ask friends who volunteer & belong to a volunteer association. They don’t charge money, they take persons out for a few hours or a day. These guides don’t expect money, they do it for cultural benefits. I have found that most do appreciate lunch paid for, & a tip is always appreciated, but difficult to get them to accept.
Gift giving custom/or tip giving, you will have to offer 2-5 times generally before the person will accept your gratuity or gift. But when your gift is accepted you have made a friend for life. Welcome to the land of the rising sun:):):)
