Indigenous Art Hokkaido's Ainu

Thursday, January 12, 2017 | By: Blain Harasymiw Photography

The indigenous peoples of Japan are the Ainu, who are distinguished world-class wood carvers chiseling their folklore. This wood carving of a brown bear fishing is about six feet in length. I photoshopped in the background; I choose a sunrise shot that I took off the coast of Hokkaido where I have seen brown bears fishing; while leading a Hokkaido photography tour.
I recommend to anyone visiting northern Japan to stop in for a few days visit in Akan village of Yuku Tsuruga.
