The Ultimate Hokkaido Winterscapes January 10 - 23, 2018

Hokkaido Photography Tour 

 

 

Expeditions Route

Arrival Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) on the 9th the day before we start our journey, and check into the airport hotel.

Day 1, 2, Meet at Haneda hotel airport 06:30, transfer to the domestic terminal and catch our flight to Sapporo New Chitose Airport (CTS) Hokkaido. JAL-505 8:30 am ☛ 10:05 am. Drive 3hrs-6hrs to Biei stopping along the way enjoying our first day of photography with solitary trees, and clusters in fields snowy mounds with sublime lines. Check into our lodgings in Biei village, and enjoy the art of Japanese cuisine with a toast. 
 After breakfast, at our lodgings we will explore the area photographing The Biei blue river, rolling hill landscapes, treescapes and if open the frozen blue pond for evening light up.  Two nights Shirogane Park Hills Hotel  

Day 3, 4, After shooting sunrise, then breakfast, check out of Park Hills hotel. We will drive by and through farmlands fields, hills covered in heavy snow, fences, treescapes making our way up to Lake Nukabira 4-8hr, check into our lodgings and settle in for the evening.
Day four our focus will be on the 'Phantom Bridge' in Kamishiro and area. Two nights Kukaabira Gensenkyo Hotel 

 Day 5, 6, After our morning tea and checkout, we depart Lake Nukabira for Akanko volcanic complex a 3-7hrs stopping along the way on to capture the ideal perceptual land, tree, and architectural scapes. In Akan, we will visit with the Ainu who are world class wood carvers and storytellers; photographing their museum-quality arts and crafts. We will experience the celebration of the lomante fire festival, and the theater Ikor, the Ainu performance of spiritual cultural awakening, during the performance we may photograph.
Day six, Akanko, Kushiroko, and Mashuko Lakes, which are among the clearest and cleanest on our planet, we will focus this day on the perfect alpine tree and landscapes in foggy hot springs mist.
Two Nights Akan Yuku no Sato Tsuruga 

 Day 7, 8, After shooting frost flowers on lake Akan and breakfast, we check out and make our way 2hrs to the Pacific Coast for two busy days of visual arts photography. With Boats frozen in ice and on land-treescapes-grasslands abstracts, along with one of the most dramatic sunsets and possibly visit with a herd of over 500 stampeding Eizo Sika deer. Two Nights Sea Side Hotel

Day 9, After photographing the spectacular sunrise then breakfast we check out of the Sea Side and continue our journey along the coastline, our focus this day will be the Cape Kiritappu and seascapes.  Overnight Hotel Gomi 

Day 10, After breakfast and check out Hotel Gomi, we will journey around Kushiro Wetlands National Park, which is often blanketed in a sea of fog during the golden hours. The tree branches are usually frozen over in the AM golden hour by the rivers edge. This evening we will have dinner out next door to our hotel, Kushiro is well known in Japan for its cuisine. Overnight La Vista Kushirogawa 

Day 11, After an early morning shoot in Kushiro wetlands national park and breakfast we check out of La Vista. Travel the south coast line of Hokkaido, 3-8hrs.  Our focus this day will be on lighthouses, Seascapes, Treescapes, Icescapes, rockscapes.

Day 12, 13, �After morning tea checkout Hotel Urakawa. We continue up the coastline for a couple of hours photographing; then head inland to Lake Shikotsu National Park with its many peaks and lakes. Shikotsu Lake has been compared to Baikal lake with clear transparency and visibility to 25 meters depth; it also does not freeze over during the cold winter months. The shoreline offers us an abundance of snowy treescapes Mt. Yoei known as mini fuji sits in the backdrop reflecting in the lake. The area has the largest populations of Ainu, the indigenous pepoles of Japan. We will concentrate two days on alpine abstract photography, treescapes reflections in Shikotsu Lake and Toya Lake plus cultural, perceptual visual arts. Two nights Midorinokaze Resort Kitayuzawa 

Day 14, After lunch we transfer to Sapporo New Chitose Airport (CTS) Hokkaido for our flight to Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) domestic terminal JAL-514 15:00 ☞ 16:40After landing, we will get you settled than depart.

Included: All Lodgings 3-5 star with western style toiletries, all meals, LandCruiser SUV-gas, domestic flights, detailed itinerary,  lodgings URL’s after support identification of locations and historical data, by email phone or over Skype, photo guide instruction, emergency supplies such as sleeping bags-mats, MSR stove 2 days foods just in case stuck in a snow storm.

Not Included: Health and travel insurance, international airfare, items of a personal nature such as hotel amenities.
