Steller's sea eagle (Haliaeetus pelagicus) and The white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), all images in this gallery were taken while I was leading my annual Hokkaido Nature Birding workshop tour.

The Steller's Sea Eagle is a master at catching fish; in the winter, the eagles practically live on the pack ice. I took this image while leading my annual Hokkaido birding tour with camera in hand.

Below a Steller's Sea Eagles gliding over pack ice to find open water and prey, if this bird had prey, the Eagle above would have pounced and fought for the prey. I took this image while leading my annual Hokkaido Wildlife Tour.

Two Steller's Sea Eagles were fighting for no apparent reason, but I never forget they have survived two ice ages, and one reason they have survived is their instinct to battle.

A Steller's Sea Eagle with Freshley caught prey; another eagle below is examining the prey and questioning to engage or not.

This White-Tailed Eagle came straight at us; I was in a Zodiac Boat with two participants. I was leading a Japan private birding expedition that took us from Okinawa to Hokkaido.
