The majority of photo tours in Japan are -not- reasonably priced, because the lead photographer is not based in Japan, having to hire a guide, translator, drivers, etc. Then you also have to pay extra sums of money for their business class airfare to Japan and back, wow that's getting expensive.

Most Japanese do not speak English; some hotels advertise English speaking staff in the major cities it’s an excellent service mostly. Once you are in the countryside, this service is rare. Usually, the hotels offering English speaking services are of questionable quality! Off the top of my head, I can list hotels in Nagano Snow Monkey Park, Hokkaido, Yamanashi, Tochigi, and Nara that offer English speaking services. But I would not stay especially in winter due to no central heating; they are using kerosene heaters/oil stoves or electric heaters in the rooms and lobby. The interesting part these hotels are listed on popular booking sites on the internet with 3-5 stars, but in reality, 0-1 star, how does this happen, guests leave a good review, poof 3-5 stars.
