Long Exposure Photography

Long exposure photography is a fun way to express creative visual art, but few people really use it effectively. When you want to show motion, use a slow shutter speed, in the photo below you can barely see the Japanese priest giving a blessing at a shrine. I wanted to create this with him blending into his surroundings, but keeping the shrine's donation box with the symbol in focus. If I had used a faster shutter speed and a smaller aperture it would have been just another touristy photo. You can now see the priest waving his pray fan along with the surrounding, giving us clues to where the photo was taken. Without a tripod and shutter release cable, photos like this can be difficult to capture. Have some fun with long exposure photography adding some creativeness to your travel photography.
